Frequently Unasked Questions
Last updated Nov 30, 2004
The Intro: No one really asks these questions but they might someday. We figure we can get a lot of things out of the way by making a FUQ. With that in mind, we present you with the semi-official Dillweed FUQ. We will try to clear up any questions or misconceptions you may have, within this FUQ. Some things will probably go unanswered. You can post all questions or corrections here in this forum.
Some questions that people may ask someday:
Q: Is Dillweed a cover band?
A: No, while Dillweed has love for many bands and styles of music they are not a cover band
Section 1: The Beginning
Q:Who are Dillweed?
A: Dillweed are a band formed of anyone willing to play together to make good music. Regular members include Dan Bobek, Justin Denman, Terry Ainsworth, Jeremy Kinn, Pango, Adam Clayton, Mike D and others. For more info on the Dillweed family just ask.
Q: When did they form?
A: It was a time of boundless energy and drug abuse. According to legend, Dan ingested shrooms and went on a
magical ride meeting a mystical rabbit. The rabbit told him to make an album and play these songs. When he awoke
from his trip he noticed that he already had several complete songs. So sometime in 2003 Dan started compiling songs for an album. He then formed Dillweed basically to make recordings and play shows to amuse friends and himself.
Q: What are Dillweeds accomplishments?
A: Right now, they've put out 1 album of 16 songs. They have played in many venues to their legions of loyal fans. Also they are filming a music video. We hear that Ebert gave it 2 thumbs up but that is only hearsay.
Q:Are the members of Dillweed related?
A: No, but they do have a brotherhood kinship of some kind.
Q: Where is Dillweed from?
A: Iowa City, IA
Q: Is Pom Pom a mascot or what?
A: Pom Pom is a lucky charm used to inspire the magic music. Um, so yeah Pom Pom is a mascot of sorts.
Q: Are the members of Dillweed available?
A: Dan and Justin are married, other than that you girls go wild!
Q: Who is Sunformer?
A: Sunformer was a previous band featuring Terry Ainsworth (Bass), Dan Bobek (Guitar/Vox), Adam Clayton (Drums),
Justin Denman (Guitar), and Damon Marvin (Vox/Guitar). Nate Hedlund took over drumming duties after Adam had left.
Section 2: The Album
Q: No one has ever had any questions about the album?
A: Nope.
Section 3: Singles, B-sides, and Outtakes
Q: Are there any unreleased songs that didn't make the cut on the Dillweed debut?
A: Yes, there are probably too many to count but Dan posts a lot of material for free if you keep an eye on the Dillweed forum.
Q: Does Dillweed have any singles out there?
A: Working on it now...
Section 4: Miscellaneous
Q:What kind of guitars does Dillweed play?
A: Dan plays a Stratocaster for the most part and occasionally a Epiphone Custom Les Paul. While Justin sticks to mainly his Les Paul, Stratocaster, and telecaster.
Q: What about a drum machine? Does Dillweed use them?
A: Most of the recordings on the album were drum machines with the exception of the tracks Adam Clayton played on. There was some percussion also done live on several tracks. Dillweed tries to always use a live drummer for shows.
Some shows they have used a drum machine but nothing will ever replace the live drummer!
Q: I have way too much time on my hands. Can I make a Dillweed related item?
A: Of course you can. Its your time and energy, do what you want with it.
Q: Is Dillweed prejudice or racist?
A: Not at all. They may have songs sung in weird confusing voices sometimes but its just to add to the fun. Dillweed welcomes all races to come listen to music with them.
Q: Have Dillweed ever been ubducted by aliens?
A: We're not at liberty to discuss this.
Section 5: Merchandise, Trading, and Support
Q: How might I get CDs of unreleased Dillweed for free?
A: Keep an eye out on this forum. Rumor has it that Dan has something up his sleeve. Or you could just download the songs as he posts them and burn your own compilation.
Q: But WHY would Dillweed do something for me for free?
A: Because its all about the music. Sure money is fine and dandy but the music should be enjoyed by everyone.
Q: Are you allowed to record Dillweed when they play live?
A: Yes, as long as you can get your recording gear in. In truth, Dillweed encourages this activity.
Q: Can you then trade or give away those Recordings?
A: We hope so. Spread the love...
Q: Where can I find setlists for past Dillweed shows?
A: Dan will usually post a setlist in the forum.
Q: How can I give Dillweed money?
A: buy a cd through the website. come see a Dillweed or related show.
Q: Why would I want to give money to the Dills?
A: As a way of encouraging them to continue to make the fine works they have. Good art is hard to come by and these guys deserve something. Plus it feels good to give.
Q: How does Dillweed fit into the Iowa scene?
A: Dillweed doesn't really fit in anywhere and thats the beauty.
