Now the Peppers have always been a great band but they lost some cool points in my book today. I have Itunes and I enjoy its services especially when bands release a few exclusive songs not found on any releases. Now I would much rather have a cd with the music in its full glory but .99 for a song isn't too bad.
I get an email today saying that the Peppers are releasing all of their back catalog on itunes but with bonus tracks from each session never before heard. I quickly logged into itunes to grab a few and sure enough they had several exclusive tracks for each of the newer albums from "Blood Sugar Sex Magic" to "By The Way".
Now here is the catch, you have to buy each full album in order to get the 3 new tracks for each release. Now I would imagine that any fan who is hardcore enough to want these leftover outtakes already has these albums.
Its probably just a record company scheme to make more money but its a nasty one. from what I understand the Flaming Lips are doing this too but at least they have also said that their tracks will eventually become bsides that you can get on a tangible cd single.

I'm SUPER pissed about this. I'm not dropping 50+ bucks to get 8 new songs in compressed files. Fortunately there's a huge complaint thread on their official messageboard, so hopefully they'll remedy the situation.
