I've got to tell about the best time I'll ever live in my life. Last Friday I spent the night at my friends house to chill and play music. I met their new drummer who turned out to be 34 and everyone else was 17. The jammin' started out nice with one dude playing rythym, one dude bass, and drummer. They were pretty much playing the same thing over and over and I desperatly wanted to practice my solo's but since I wasn't in their band and the tweaker was acting funny I knew that if I did some half-assed solo they would think, 'What the Fuck?!' So I sat out and got drunk and listened. It was pretty good wounding with drums but I couldn't beleive they were playing the same thing over and over with no change. Then my good buddy Daniel showed up. The best solo-ist I know. I knew things were going to get good so I drank more. Now it was fucking good because of Daniels solo's. Daniel was the only one except maybe the drummer adding new stuff to the beat but everyone but him were nodding their heads to the beat as if they were doing something important that only they could bring to the band. Daniel was going hella good and so was the drummer. After a break everyone started drinking and smoking pot and I got the tweak-drummer to tell us some insanely tweaked version of his life and he got emotional and left the room. I was pretty drunk and I went to use the bathroom and I heard him drumming to Led Zeppelin. I picked up a guitar and he said, "Please don't ruin this song." So I put the guitar down cause I wouldn't have added shit to the song. But he's digging it and I enjoy listening. Eventually Daniel walks in and I hand him the guitar and tell him not to fuck up. A new song had started and The Drummer was on top of it. Daniel was going semi-good trying to find the key and the beat. After maybe ten seconds I caught the beat. It would go, pause then quickly go again and pause and continue. Daniel had caught on yet so I started nodding my head to the beat pausing where appropriate and Daniel caught on.
So I was in a living room with a live drummer and solo-ist playing to loud Led Zeppelin and Daniel and I were pretty drunk. Daniel was on fire. He got that beat and started playing funky. Extremely funky. Their was one part where I could hear Led Zep soloing funky and Daniel was funkier. I was amazed and laughing the whole time as was Daniel. I was out of breath it was so insane. It lasted forever but eventually stopped and Daniel and I packed back into Ryan's room. I told everyone in the room what they missed and how great Daniel was and they tried to make fun of me.
"Oh yeah, Dude. You were telling us how much you love Daniel and that you would suck him off and shit. Hey Daniel, I think you have a new groupie."
To which I replied, "Hell no. You guys missed the best playing ever. I might never live a moment like that again in music. And I'm not Daniels groupie. Fucking admirer. But I know that one day I'll be better then he is now. Daniel will have to keep going to stay ahead of me. One day I will be the best. Wait and see."
I saw the incredible that night and got the goal back in my view of why I'm playing guitar in the first place. I was the second best in that room that night and only I knew it. Because I know I'm better, I don't feel the need to try to learn other peoples songs.
Anyways, Daniel and I went back out in the living room because some other people wanted to hear Daniel play. I took two shots of vodka, almost threw up, held it down and ran back out as Daniel started.(Minus the drums) I didn't know what happened but Daniel was playing even better then the first time. I had my face in my knees and was out of breath as I was bombarded by guitar holy-ness. towards the end I looked over at Daniels fingers and either I was drunk or Daniel was a robot because his fingers were mechanical and fast. When the song was over it was only Daniel and I in the room. Evryone else left but I didn't give a fuck. I witnessed the unwitnessable and I was glad to ba a part of it. I must've nut a good three times. I was following Daniel around through the night to make sure I didn't miss anything else sweet and I eventually saw him passed out on the couch. Knowing I wasn't going to be missing anyhthing else that night, I fell asleep to.
Pretty much I know that I will be the best if I keep at it because I see people better then me play and I catch mistakes, or think of something sweet to add to it. But I'm not that good yet so I just wait until I can do those things so people will be blown away. And people are going to say, "When did he get so good?"
Right now I'm teaching myself to memorize everynote on the fret board so I can voice any note in every key.
